The results, the costs, the controversy, and the truth about the “skinny pen.”
Let’s address the elephant in the room immediately. Before the comments section raises the roof and the insults start flying—yes, I am a fitness and lifestyle blogger. Yes, I usually advocate for grinding it out in the gym. But my job is literally to test diets, routines, and lifestyle medications so that you don’t have to.
Recently, I found myself putting weight on despite my usual routine. I sought medical advice and decided to take the plunge into the world of medical weight loss. I chose Mounjaro (Tirzepatide), and I want to share my honest, six-month experience with you.
Why I Chose ASDA and Mounjaro
I opted to get my prescription through the ASDA Online Pharmacy. Why? Pure convenience. The ability to utilize local collection meant I wasn’t waiting around for deliveries, and it felt discreet and professional.
I specifically chose Mounjaro over other options (like Wegovy or Ozempic) primarily because of the dosing schedule. It is a once-weekly jab. The medication comes in incredibly easy-to-use applicators (KwikPens). If you are squeamish about needles, let me reassure you: I experienced absolutely no pain during the injections.
The Protocol: Dosing and Titration
The process is designed to let your body adjust slowly. You don’t just jump to the highest dose.
- Start: You begin on 2.5mg for the first four weeks.
- Progression: You move up in 2.5mg increments monthly.
- Max Dose: The scale goes up to a maximum maintenance dose of 15mg.
The Reality Check: Side Effects
This is a medical treatment, not magic dust, and it comes with real physiological changes. While my experience was largely positive, it is vital to know what the research says regarding potential side effects.
Common side effects include: Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, indigestion, injection site reactions, fatigue, and headaches.
Serious (but rarer) side effects can include: Pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney issues (often due to dehydration), severe stomach problems (gastroparesis), and allergic reactions. There are also warnings regarding thyroid C-cell tumors based on animal studies.
Did It Work? My Experience
The short answer? Most definitely.
The weight didn’t fall off overnight, which I actually preferred. It came off slowly and in manageable amounts. The mechanism is fascinating; technically, you can eat whatever you want. There are no “banned foods.” However, the medication controls your appetite to such a degree that you simply cannot overeat.
I personally found that my relationship with food changed drastically. In fact, the smell of various fast foods—which I used to crave—started making me feel physically sick. The “food noise” in my head just turned off.
Six months later, I have lost many stone and I am very happy with the physical results.
The Cost of Slimming Down
We need to talk about the price. During my journey, the cost ranged from £150 to £250 per month depending on the dose and the provider. However, we have seen price increases across the board in 2025.
Is it expensive? Yes. But here is my counter-argument: I honestly think you save money in the long run on your monthly food bill. When you aren’t buying snacks, takeaways, or large grocery hauls, the cost tends to balance itself out.
The Controversy: Experts vs. Reality
There is currently a lot of noise in the media, with experts playing Mounjaro down or labeling it as dangerous. Of course they are.
If you look at the bigger picture, drugs like this could put many fitness professionals, diet coaches, and weight loss supplement companies out of business. It disrupts a multi-billion pound industry. While safety is paramount, it is worth questioning the motivation behind some of the more aggressive fear-mongering.
The Big Question: What Happens After?
This is what everyone asks: “Will you gain it all back?”
My take is simple. Like any diet, shake plan, or weight loss supplement, if you do not stick to a healthy lifestyle and diet after you stop, the weight will eventually come back. Mounjaro is a tool to help you reset, not a permanent shield against a bad diet. Maintenance requires work.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medication with serious contraindications.
