Kilimanjaro – the new target

New Year – New Me!

New years is not always fireworks, wines, fancy date nights, and sleeping all day after a wishful night. New Year is meant to be a new beginning. Yes! A new beginning towards your dreams. If you haven’t achieved anything in the last three months, New Year could encourage you to work on it now. New Year also comes with lots of resolutions, some that we work on.

However, most of the resolutions that we made were only to brag in front of our friends, and we tend to forget these types of resolutions ALWAYS!

Let me share my new year’s resolution with you all and how I’m achieving it!

Me and Adam, my climbing companion decided to make a big resolution for this year.

I was not sure what it should be. If I were a Fat Buddha, I would not take it seriously, but now I’m an achiever. So, I decided to set an even tougher goal to amaze myself after achieving it. I asked Adam, “Let’s climb Kilimanjaro this year”.

To anyone reading this, Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and also the single highest free-standing mountain above sea level in this whole wide world.

Yes! You are reading it right. I made my resolution to climb it with Adam. Losing 5 stone and those excruciating months that finally brought contentment have made me set that target. Another purpose of this resolution is the number of benefits it will bring. The whole process of training and climbing other mountains will make me stay healthy and lose more weight.

Kilimanjaro is not easy to reach; you need to climb multiple mountains to climb that one big giant. If you look at the result, the hurdles in the way won’t scare you. I set my mind according to the date of climbing, which is the 24th of July.

I believe that our brain is a mini computer in a body; it works according to the data that we store in it. Just like any other computer that works exactly according to the instructions given by its user, our brain does the same. All we have to do is store in motivation and take out the positive results. I set the stopwatch in my brain till the 24th of July, all the coming days are meant to prepare me for that day. To climb Kilimanjaro, we have to train ourselves to make ourselves capable of getting what we’ve desired.

The training began in the first week of January. The first goal was tough. We have to climb Mount Snowdon on the cold snowy morning of the 14th of January. It was all wet and cold. Adam and I hadn’t engaged ourselves in the training process over the Christmas days. When your goals are high, nature and your body test you in multiple ways to see if you are determined.

There were lots of excuses to not do that today, but only one determination, the determination to climb Kilimanjaro. When you are determined, your pituitary gland starts releasing all the necessary endorphins to make you happy in what you are doing. If anyone of us lost determination that day, we would never be able to achieve that first step (Mount Snowdon) toward Kilimanjaro.

Companionship does matter, a good partner doubles the amount of motivation in you and eliminates all the thoughts that could exacerbate the negativities in your way. After completing the first training session of Snowdon, I thanked myself for not giving up. A person doesn’t usually know what he can do until it’s done.

Constant determination is the key to every goal. There will be days when we will be tested against our goal of Kilimanjaro. There will be days when we have to drag a little amount of hope and energy into ourselves. There will be days when we will be about to quit. There will be days when we will think it is not meant for us. There will be days when our body demands us to quit. There will be days when our brain will not be taking in more motivation. But with each day, there will be the constant determination of reaching MOUNT KILIMANJARO.

If you are determined and you have faith in yourself, together you can climb the skies. So, I’m still going on and working hard on my New Year’s resolution and I want everyone to stay determined to complete yours. One day you will be writing about how you have marked your resolution by not giving up. Well! I’m all ready to write about my journey of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro because I installed the instructions in my brain that IT’S HAPPENING!

Stay connected with me on my journey towards Mount Kilimanjaro.

NOTE TO SELF get waterproof trousers and gloves for the next training session!
