Are you ready to run the London Marathon this year? If so, then packing is a key part of your preparation. You need to make sure you have all the essentials for race day and also for the night before. To help ensure that you don’t forget anything important, we’ve put together a comprehensive kit list and checklist for both men and women runners taking on this iconic marathon event. Read on to find out what items you should include in your bag!
For men, the essential items for race day include:
– Running shoes and socks
– Shorts or running tights, with a shirt or top
– Hat and/or sunglasses
– Water bottle and energy snacks to carry while on the run
– Safety pins (to attach race numbers to your clothes)
– Mobile phone with charger.
On the night before the race, you should also pack:
– Comfortable clothing for pre-race dinner and postrace celebrations
– Extra layers of clothing in case of cold weather
– A light rain jacket or windbreaker if needed
– Any medication that you need during the race such as inhalers
– Foot care supplies like blister pads and bandages
– Toiletries (including lip balm, sunscreen, moisturizer)
For women, the essentials are very similar to those for men but you may also want to include:
– A sports bra that is supportive without being too tight
– Headbands or ponytail holders if needed for long hair
– Body glide or Vaseline for chafing prevention
– A handheld mirror for making sure your bib number is properly visible.
On the night before the race, be sure to pack:
– An extra pair of running shoes, just in case yours don’t perform as expected on race day
– Extra layers of clothing, like a long-sleeve shirt or lightweight hoodie
– A headlamp for prerace stretching or warmup
– Comfortable shoes and/or slippers for relaxing after the race.
